Mountaineering Tour I -
Passauer Hütte (2033m)
>> Tour II

Date/Duration:

05-09-2005, 8:00-15.00

Description:
The tour covers everything from easy hiking to climbing and we will separate our guests into 3 groups according to abilities and intentions. The tour climbs the Birnhorn (2634m) in the limestone of the northern rim of the Alps (Start at 880m). The options are:

Birnhorn in April (no more snow in September)

(1) Birnbachloch (1340m), an easy 1 hour hike to one of the biggest springs of the Alps. It is situated in a spectacular setting and provides a good idea how hiking is like in Austria. The difference in elevation is about 360m.

Approach from Leogang      Access through the forest
(25 min drive)       (autumn 2004)

(2) The hike to the Passauer Hütte (2033m) covers about 1150 vertical meters and offers a steep approach through forest and open fields to a well located hut. Reasonably trained engineers with adequate outfit (mountaineering boots, wind stopper) manage this in about 2,5 hours (return 1,5h). You will enjoy the wonderful view from the hut.

(3) For the experts this tour offers a well secured climbing section. Guiding, equipment and basic instructions will be offered by us. If you are ready for an adventure and not afraid of height or exposure try this.  The fixed rope route ends at the Passauer Hütte.
For this tour you definitely have to be free of high anxiety. The physical condition has to be good because climbing is often quite exhausting. The tour will be guided by Mr. Wenzel. He will also carry support equipment to help in case of difficulties. There is always the chance of not entering the climbing section and of directly walking to the hut or even of turning around after the first few vertical meters. An introduction will be offered the day before.

All tours have the same starting and end point. There are always options to drop out or return earlier. All tours will be guided by us and all necessary information will be provided after registration. The costs will depend on the number of participants and might vary from 10 to 25 Euros per tour. Registration in advance will be appreciated in order to help in organising the logistics (please contact Mr. Wenzel) .

We hope to welcome some of you on one of our tours!
