International SAMCO "I-SAMCO"
The standardization initiative embedded in SAMCO quickly identified the
international demand for standardization initiatives. Large networks
and projects have been identified worldwide, which are acting along the
same lines as SAMCO.
Therefore the specific support action (SSA) I-SAMCO started on October 1st 2004 and is scheduled to operate 32 months.
International Partners:
NEES - Network of Earthquake Engineering Simulation, NSF, USA:
NEES is the biggest project in the field of Earthquake Engineering
worldwide |

E-DEFENSE / source: NIED

Tri-Axial Seismic Simulator
source: NCREE
|
NIED - National Institute for Earth Observation and Disaster
Prevention, Japan:
NIED has constructed the world largest shaking table
(E-DEFENSE) which was completed in 2005. It is a table 20 by 20 meters
with 6 degrees of freedom and a vertical payload of 1200 tons. |
NCREE - National Centre for Research in Earthquake Engineering,
ROC / Taiwan:
NCREE is the largest testing facility in Taiwan with excellent researchers
and facilities heavily involved in earthquake engineering, and disaster
mitigation. |
ISIS - Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures, Canada
Research Network:
ISIS is a research network aiming at bringing civil engineering
to a world leadership position with the priority of training highly qualified
personnel. |
AIT - Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand:
AIT represents the south east Asian area with a focus on structural
health management. |

I-SAMCO Consortium:
Objectives
I-SAMCO intends to contribute to enhancing international collaboration
between key institutions, academia and industry to share knowledge, methodologies,
tools and results of past and future research. International collaboration
will be installed through networking, joint participation to international
projects, exchange of researchers and contribution to national projects
of common interest. It is recognised that the will for international collaboration
exists in the engineering community. Nevertheless the basis for successful
work lacks the necessary tool and an initiative determined to actively
pursue the objectives. I-SAMCO will become the driver from the European
side and shall in a long term develop into an organisation which is self-supporting.
